About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Chardonnay grows in the Ronc di Juri vineyard in Buttrio. Yields are low and the grapes are harvested late, which gives the wine its structure, body and richness.

Vinification

The grapes are picked entirely by hand, selected and sorted, then pressed gently and slowly. Dry ice cooling during pressing preserves the delicate aromas. The must ferments in new and one-year-old French oak barrels, and the wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

After malolactic fermentation the wine ages for 10 months on fine lees, stirred four times a week.

Tasting profile

Elegant, with structure, body and richness.

Vintage notes

Winter 2020 in Friuli-Venezia Giulia was very mild, with no sharp changes in temperature. Mild weather in March pointed to early budbreak, and fairly dry conditions in April and May helped the vines flower successfully. June was the wettest month of the summer, but steady air circulation kept the plants healthy. After that, rainy periods regularly alternated with dry spells that were not excessively hot, helping the grapes keep a balance between sugar and acidity.

Label / history

The wine belongs to Dorigo's Prestige range. Ronc di Juri means "Juri's vineyard", named after the family that once farmed the land. Dorigo was founded in 1966 with the purchase of two vineyards, Ronc di Juri in Buttrio and Montsclapade in Premariacco. The new owners increased planting density several times over and set a specific weight for each bunch. They also invested in equipment, including machinery for tending the vines, new barriques for fermentation and reed mats for drying grapes.
