About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the hillside Montsclapade vineyard in Premariacco, in the heart of Colli Orientali del Friuli, at 200 metres above sea level. Its marl soil is poor in water and nutrients. The Guyot-trained vines are planted at 9,600 vines per hectare and yield 0.8 kg per vine. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected and sorted.
Vinification
The wine is made by the traditional méthode champenoise. The grapes are pressed slowly and gently, with dry ice used during pressing to preserve their aromatic character. Only free-run juice is fermented, in three-year-old French barriques. Residual sugar is 5.40 g/L.
Ageing
The wine spends three years on its lees.
Tasting profile
Complex, elegant and refined.
Label / history
Montsclapade means “broken mountain” in Premariacco, referring to the vineyard's location near a mountain with a split summit. Dorigo was founded in 1966 with the purchase of the Ronc di Juri vineyard in Buttrio and the Montsclapade vineyard in Premariacco. The new owners combined the vineyards’ traditions with modern winemaking technology, substantially increased planting density, set a specific weight for each bunch and introduced modern vineyard machinery.
