About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in the north-facing San Gervasio vineyard, at 700 metres above sea level in the eastern part of the municipality of Teglio, near the village of Carteria. The soils are 70% sand and 20% loam, and the vines are Guyot-trained.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand in the first week of October and carefully sorted. They are then dried by the appassimento method in well-ventilated rooms until mid-December. Maceration lasts 10 days, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 20 days.
Ageing
Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barriques, followed by one year of ageing in the same type of vessel.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from a woodpecker that inhabits the small woodland behind the vineyard.
