About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Gulielmus comes from a 2-hectare vineyard in the Baiano district of Castelfranci, one of the highest sites in the Taurasi denomination. The south-facing site lies at 350–380 m above sea level and has clay-loam soil. The vines are trained to single Guyot and were planted with material selected from vines that survived phylloxera. Planting began in 1992; the technical data give a vine age of 20–25 years and a yield of 60%.
Grapes
Aglianico. Taurasi Riserva DOCG, Campania.
Vinification
The 2020 grapes were harvested by hand into 15 kg crates on 26 October. Selection on a sorting table removed impurities and imperfect fruit. The bunches were destemmed, the grapes crushed and the must macerated. Alcoholic fermentation proceeded at a controlled 27–28°C. Brief pump-overs were used solely to wet the cap. After separation from the skins and an initial decantation, the wine was transferred to oak casks, where malolactic fermentation took place.
Ageing
After malolactic fermentation, the wine was racked and returned to oak casks for 18–24 months. It then received a further two years of bottle ageing before release.

Tasting profile
The 2020 Gulielmus is characterized as an especially contemporary expression, conveying a sense of brightness and joy in a territory more commonly associated with austerity. It is intended to develop over time.
Vintage notes
Winter was mild with moderate rainfall, supporting regular budbreak around mid-April. Early spring was also warm, with slightly above-average temperatures and considerably less rain than in the preceding year. From mid-June through early September, predominantly warm, sunny conditions alternated with hotter, more humid spells. More unsettled and sometimes heavy rain arrived in October and affected work in later-ripening areas. Despite temperatures above 20°C in the highest Aglianico zones at harvest, the vineyard produced healthy, ripe fruit and a notably contemporary 2020 wine.
Label / history
Gulielmus takes its inspiration from the 12th-century Goleto Abbey, built by Saint William and regarded as a symbol of Irpinia. The label recalls the abbey’s central entrance portal.
