About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Barbera vineyards cover approximately 1.2 hectares in the municipalities of Barolo and La Morra. In Barolo, the vines occupy flatter areas of Cannubi hill, where the soils are sandier. The Zonchetta and Boiolo sites in La Morra have more clay-rich soils with calcareous components. Predominantly south- and southeast-facing vineyards lie between 200 and 320 metres above sea level. Planting years range from 1972 to 2015.
Grapes
100% Barbera.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled cement or stainless-steel tanks, with skin contact lasting at least 15 days. After racking, the lots from the different vineyards are blended.
Ageing
The blended wine matures for at least one year in medium-capacity Slavonian oak barrels, followed by several months of bottle ageing.
Tasting profile
A vivid ruby-red wine with violet reflections. The bouquet is ethereal and intense, while the palate is dry and full-bodied. It is suited to medium-term ageing.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–17 °C. Available in 750 mL bottles.
Recognition
The 2023 and 2020 vintages received 3 VITI from Vitae. Published scores include 91 points from James Suckling for 2022; 88 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate and 91 from Falstaff for 2020; 93 from Vinous for 2019; 89 from I Vini di Veronelli for 2018, with 89/100 for both 2017 and 2016; and 90/100 from Annuario dei Migliori Vini Italiani for 2017.
