About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Pinot Nero Schweizer comes from individual vineyards selected for microclimates that have proved particularly suitable over time. The sites lie between 350 and 700 metres and encompass sharply varying soils: silty ground can occur only metres from sandy, calcareous or gravelly material. Planting density ranges from 8,000 to 12,500 vines per hectare. An internal selection of extremely low-yielding clones supports the wine’s continuing qualitative development.
Grapes
Pinot Nero.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in open vats. Frequent pump-overs and punch-downs maintain contact between the fermenting must and skins, extracting colour and aromatic compounds. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine moves from steel into barriques.
Ageing
Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques, followed by 12 months of maturation. The wine then ages for approximately one year in bottle.
