About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The estate vineyard at Volpaiole lies in the hills of Maremma on the Etruscan Coast, surrounded by several national parks and diverse plant and wildlife. Mint, violets and wild fennel grow in the area. The vineyard stands at 150–180 m above sea level, with southern and southeastern exposures. Its soils are predominantly clay and slate, and the vines are Guyot-trained.
Grapes
The wine is made from selected grapes from the Volpaiole estate vineyard.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures for 8–12 months in 225 L French oak barrels, followed by at least one year in bottle.
Tasting profile
Refined and harmonious.
Label / history
In Tuscan dialect, “Volpaiole” means “Fox’s Corner.” A German artist stylized the animal’s head for the label, where it appears as a red triangle on a white background and symbolizes the vineyard.
