About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Volpaiole vineyard lies in the hills of Maremma on the Etruscan Coast, among several national parks. The surrounding area supports diverse local plant and wildlife and carries scents of mint, violets and wild fennel. The vineyard is situated at 150–180 m above sea level, with southern and southeastern exposures. Its soils are predominantly clay and slate, and the vines are Guyot-trained.
Grapes
The wine is made from selected grapes from the Volpaiole vineyard.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures for 8–12 months in 400 L oak barrels, followed by a further 12–18 months after bottling.
Tasting profile
Refined and harmonious in character.
Label / history
In the Tuscan dialect, “Volpaiole” means “Fox’s Corner.” The label features a stylized fox’s head created by a German artist, represented as a red triangle on a white background and used as the vineyard’s symbol. Annual production does not exceed 1,080 bottles.
