About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are hand-picked from plots along the Tuscan coast.
Grapes
Selected Alicante and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are used.
Vinification
The wine originated accidentally in 2018, when a small portion of an Alicante Nera cuvée stopped fermenting before all the sugar had been consumed. Olivier-Paul Morandini added Cabernet Sauvignon grapes—the only fruit still available—to restart fermentation and complete the consumption of the remaining sugars.
In subsequent production, Alicante Nero is vinified using a traditional white-winemaking method, with Cabernet Sauvignon berries added to the fermentation tank during the process. The wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling.
Ageing
The wine rests for six months in concrete tanks. The concrete permits micro-oxygenation comparable to that of an oak barrel without imparting woody aromas.
Tasting profile
Fresh, aromatic and refined, the wine combines the character of a red wine with that of a white.
Label / history
The first, accidental production in 2018 yielded 300 litres. After it sold out and continued to attract requests, Morandini decided to produce it again. The “Coquelicoter” label is an allegory of a flower that he finds especially beautiful.
