About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The estate vineyard at Volpaiole lies on the hills of Maremma along the Etruscan Coast, surrounded by several national parks. It supports diverse local plant and animal life, with mint, violets and wild fennel among the plants found in the area. The vines grow at 150–180 metres above sea level on predominantly clay and slate soils, with southern and south-eastern exposures. They are trained using the Guyot system.
Grapes
The fruit is selected and harvested by hand from the Volpaiole estate vineyard.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine ages for six months in 500-litre French oak barrels, followed by three months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Elegant, refined and harmonious.
Label / history
In the Tuscan dialect, “Volpaiole” means “Fox’s Corner.” The label features a stylised fox’s head created by a German artist: a red triangle on a white background that also serves as the vineyard’s symbol. Annual production is approximately 650 bottles.
