About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes were hand-picked from ancient vines in Sicily.
Vinification
Made with minimal intervention using traditional methods, the wine underwent a long maceration and fermentation in concrete tanks.
Ageing
It aged for many years in large oak barrels before continuing to develop in bottle over several decades.
Tasting profile
Bottle ageing has produced a complex, layered structure and a gracefully evolved flavour, while preserving freshness, energy and the character of Sicilian Nero d’Avola.
Vintage notes
The 1975 growing season brought sunny days and cool nights, allowing the grapes to achieve exceptional ripeness and concentration.
Label / history
Cantunera is dedicated to Giovanni’s father, who lived with his own father in Vittoria in a house at a cantunera, a corner at a crossroads. The minimalist label highlights the historical continuity of the Sallemi estate.
