About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Scudetto vineyard in Perno, a hamlet of Monforte d’Alba. The west-facing site lies at 300 metres above sea level and has brown clay and grey sand soils of marine origin. Its low-yielding vines are 60–70 years old. All vineyard work is performed by hand, without chemical fertilisers or pesticides.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested in the first half of October. Traditional vinification keeps the must in contact with the pomace for 15–20 days.

Ageing

The wine matures for 18–24 months in French oak barrels.

Label / history

The vineyard takes its name from its shield-like shape: scudetto means “shield” in Italian.
