About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from six historic plots in the Monprivato vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, each measuring 100 m². The vineyard is documented in archives dating to 1666. Vines giving the best results were selected over many years. The soil was dug repeatedly to bring earth up from a depth of 4 m; this earth has very high natural levels of boron, iron, magnesium, manganese and potassium.
Grapes
Maurizio Mascarello planted Nebbiolo Michét in the late 1950s, following half a century of the selection’s acclimatisation to the Monprivato terroir.
Vinification
The selected grapes ripen by mid-October and are harvested by hand. Traditional vinification includes a 25-day fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for 54 months in Slavonian oak barrels.
Tasting profile
The 2008 vintage is somewhat closed in its youth but is elegant and refined, with considerable potential to develop over time.
Label / history
The cuvée was created in the early 1980s. Mauro Mascarello dedicated it to his grandfather Maurizio, known as “Morissio” in the local Piedmontese dialect, who was the first in the family to recognise the qualities of the Monprivato vineyard.
