About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Villero vineyard lies in the commune of Castiglione Falletto in southwestern Piedmont, at 340 m above sea level. Its soils are moderately clayey and calcareous. The vines are thinned regularly throughout the summer so that only the best bunches develop.
Vinification
The grapes ripen by mid-October and are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of about 28 °C for 15–20 days, following a traditional approach.
Ageing
The wine matures in oak barrels for about 36 months.
Tasting profile
The nose is remarkably expressive. The palate is radiant, with rich depth of flavour, and gains complexity and richness of character over time.
Label / history
The Mascarello family has made wine for more than 150 years. Giuseppe Mascarello began his career managing the vineyards of Marchesa Giulia Colbert Falletti di Barolo and founded his own winery toward the end of the nineteenth century. His son Maurizio left the building-materials trade to take charge of the family company in 1923. Giuseppe’s grandson Mauro continued the family tradition from 1967 and introduced a sorting table for selecting ideal bunches. Mauro’s son Giuseppe joined the business in 1996, working on its promotion alongside Mauro’s wife, Maria Teresa. The winery combines its family traditions with modern scientific and technical developments.
