Vineyard and terroir

The grapes are grown in the Campi Taurasini area. Despite Irpinia's hot climate, Aglianico retains high acidity, which gives the wines their distinctive character.

Grapes

Aglianico yields tannic wines with plenty of ageing potential. Its rich structure suits single-variety wines as well as blends, including blends with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The grapes are hand-picked.

Ageing

The wine is aged in oak barrels. The text gives no size or duration for the barrels.

Tasting profile

Young, the wine can be powerful and full-bodied, especially when the grapes were harvested early, before full ripeness. After several years of ageing the tannins soften and the wine becomes smooth and velvety. The nose shows bright fruit with hints of chocolate and plum.

Label / history

"Jumara" comes from a local-dialect word for the Calore River. The river separates the municipalities of Torre le Nocelle and Taurasi and shapes the valley. Its water is quite warm, yet it gives local people relief from the summer heat.
