About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Flauto Magico comes from selected Sangiovese grosso rows in the Mozart Vineyard, an approximately 1-hectare parcel in the hills around Montosoli. Fifty loudspeakers play Mozart among the vines around the clock. The north-facing site lies at 250 m on loamy-clay soil and is trained to Guyot.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese grosso.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand from the beginning of October and pass across a selection table before entering the vat. Fermentation is spontaneous in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, with délestage and 25–30 days of maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least 48 months in French oak barrels. Bâtonnage on the fine lees is practiced for three months, followed by at least 12 months in bottle before release. The selected fruit is vinified and matured separately from the estate’s other Brunello production.
Technical data
Yield is 32 hl/ha, and production is approximately 1,500 bottles.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red with garnet reflections. The aroma combines black cherry, cedar and violet. Bright red-cherry fruit shapes the palate, supported by tannins presented as more elegant than those of the estate’s standard Brunello.
Label / history
The wine began with the 2008 harvest, after the Mozart Vineyard had been equipped with 50 Bose loudspeakers. Its name refers to Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. Conceived as the first of the estate’s “Crus of Paradise,” it remains accompanied by Mozart’s music through vineyard cultivation, barrel maturation and bottle ageing.
