About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Moz Art Wine is selected from the estate’s best Sangiovese grosso grapes grown in the hills around Montosoli, north of Montalcino. The cooler northern position promotes balanced vine growth and a delicate, refined style. The vineyards lie at 250 m, face north and northwest, and have loamy-clay soils. Vines are spur-pruned on permanent cordons.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese grosso.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand from mid-September onwards and sorted on a selection table before vatting. The technical sheet describes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, délestage and 20–25 days of maceration. A later production account describes the Brunello fruit remaining in the fermentation vat with the skins for 30–35 days to extract polyphenols and build structure and complexity.

Ageing

Maturation lasts at least 36 months in French oak. The detailed production account specifies an initial year in French oak tonneaux, half of them new, followed by transfer to larger 20–25 hl French oak casks for gentler maturation with less overt oak influence. At least 12 months in bottle precedes release.

Technical data

Yield is 40 hl/ha, with production of approximately 14,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Ruby red with delicate garnet nuances. The soft bouquet evokes woodland fruit, musk and floral tones. The palate carries characteristic Brunello fruit in a notably soft and elegant form. The combination of tonneaux and larger casks is intended to preserve elegance and suppleness without excessive oak character.

Serving and pairing

Designed for meat dishes, particularly a juicy steak.

Label / history

The name separates “Moz” and “Art” to recall Mozart, whose music is played in the vineyards throughout the year.
