About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are selected from east-facing vineyards in Penon and Graun, at 600–900 m above sea level. Warm Mediterranean days alternate with cool nights, which helps the grapes develop their full aromatic potential.
Grapes
Neutral Burgundy varieties form the base of the blend (70%). Kerner and Sauvignon Blanc make up the rest of the aromatic character.
Vinification
The grapes are picked entirely by hand, each variety when it reaches optimal ripeness. Each variety is vinified separately, with fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wines are then blended.
Ageing
The blend ages on the fine lees for 15 months in large oak barrels. This extended ageing adds complexity.
Tasting profile
Kerner and Sauvignon Blanc add notes of white peach, apricot, citrus and flowers. The wine is layered, a mountain wine.
Vintage notes
2020 in Alto Adige: a relatively mild winter was followed by a rainy March and a dry, warm April, so flowering began a little earlier than usual. The summer had no prolonged periods of extreme heat, yet the growing season was short and the first grapes were picked at the beginning of September. The 2020 white wines have an appealing acidity.
