About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Pinot Noir grows in the Kurtatsch estate's vineyards in Alto Adige, at 400–650 metres above sea level on southwest-facing slopes. Soils are reddish-brown sandy loam and loam containing clay minerals and oxides. Warm Mediterranean days and cool nights let the grapes develop their full aromatic potential.
Vinification
The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness and given 48 hours of cold maceration. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in open steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine is aged in large oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Elegant in style, with a soft texture and an appealing aroma. Its overall character recalls classic French wines.
Vintage notes
2021: a challenging year in Alto Adige. The winter was mostly sunny but very cold. Spring temperatures rose only briefly and occasionally, slowing vine development, but a warm, sunny start to summer made up for the delay in the growing cycle. July and August were unsettled, and the harvest began relatively late. A rainy September was a serious challenge for the growers, but the results were impressive.
