About this wine
Grapes
Freisa is an ancient native Piedmontese variety of unknown origin. It is genetically a parent of Nebbiolo and is related to the French variety Viognier. The vines are grown mainly in Monferrato and Chieri, and are now rarely found in the Langhe. The variety is traditionally used for light, fresh red wines, often with a slight sparkle.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed. Fermentation lasts seven days in stainless-steel tanks and oak barrels of various sizes, without temperature control. The cap is managed through manual punch-downs and regular pump-overs. Post-fermentation maceration continues for 20 days.
Ageing
The 2015 vintage matured for 10 months in French and American oak tonneaux, followed by 4.5 months in stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Light and fresh, with a slight natural sparkle and spicy notes recalling the atmosphere of a traditional Eastern bazaar.
Label / history
“Faje ’n Ross” comes from a classic Piedmontese expression used when friends raise a toast together, meaning “Make it red!” The Aladdin’s lamp on the label refers to the wine’s spicy character and its association with a traditional Eastern bazaar.
