About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The estate vineyards lie on a southeast-facing hillside at 450 metres above sea level in Panzano in Chianti. Their soils combine limestone, sand, volcanic stone, schist, and clay. The vineyards are certified organic and trained to cordone speronato. The 2017 technical sheet records 8.81 hectares of vineyards in total, including 5.87 hectares under DOCG.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published vintage (2017): 90% Sangiovese, 7% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
For 2017, Merlot was harvested on 18–19 September, Sangiovese on 20–26 September, and Cabernet Sauvignon on 27–28 September. Slow fermentation proceeded at 28–29°C with daily pump-overs. The wine remained on the skins until pressing at the end of October and subsequently completed malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matured for 12 months in 400- and 500-litre French-oak barrels, followed by six months of bottle refinement before release.
Technical data
The 2017 vintage has 14.5% alcohol and 5.9 g/L total acidity. Production amounted to 14,400 bottles.
Tasting profile
Fresh fruit, balanced acidity, and spice express the Sangiovese-led character. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon round out the blend. The overall style is fresh and fruity.
Serving and pairing
A versatile wine intended to accompany a meal.
Vintage notes
The 2017 growing season began with a relatively cold, snowless winter. Spring was very warm except for a late-April frost, whose effects were limited by the vineyards’ open, quickly drying, breezy position. Summer was hot, sunny, and extremely dry. Rain at the beginning of September restored balance in the vineyards, and the entire crop was harvested during September.
