About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Sangiovese comes from a one-hectare, organically farmed single-vineyard plot on Montosoli hill in Montalcino. The plot lies on the lower part of the hill, and its vines are more than 40 years old. Brunello DOCG rules require vineyards to occupy well-exposed hillsides at no more than 600 metres above sea level, helping the grapes achieve optimal ripeness and flavour before harvest.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, sorted on a table and selected bunch by bunch. Fermentation and maceration take place in concrete vats for 45–90 days, with regular manual pump-overs. The wine is then gently pressed from the skins. It is bottled without filtration or fining and with minimal added sulphur.

Ageing

The wine matures for 36 months in large, 25-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks.

Label / history

Riccardo Campinoti acquired the Montosoli plot in late 2014. The 2016 release was the second vintage bottled from the site. Le Ragnaie is one of approximately ten producers bottling Montosoli separately.
