About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from several parts of the Montalcino appellation in Tuscany. The wine is organically produced.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and sorted at the winery, where only the best bunches are selected. Fermentation and maceration take place in concrete vats for 25–90 days, with regular manual pump-overs. After gentle pressing to separate the wine from the skins, it is bottled without filtration or fining and with a minimal addition of sulfur.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in 25-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks.
Tasting profile
It has a brighter, fresher style than Brunello.
Serving and pairing
Pair with pizza.
Vintage notes
In Tuscany, the wet, cold winter of 2015 was followed by heavy spring rain, building soil moisture reserves that sustained the vines through a hot summer. Daytime temperatures were often very high, while cool nights protected the grapes from heat stress. Rain returned in August, followed shortly by hail that caused significant damage. The surviving crop, particularly Sangiovese, performed impressively. Harvest continued throughout September, with yields reduced by the heat and hail. The vintage generally produced powerful yet elegant wines. The 2015 wine was expected to reach its full potential between 2019 and 2024.
