About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Fruit comes from the Pinino and Canchi vineyard areas. Pinino lies north of Montalcino at 284.2 metres with southeast exposure and a skeleton-rich soil containing galestro and alberese. Canchi lies northeast of Montalcino at 318.2 metres, also facing southeast, on an almost entirely clayey soil containing silt. The vines are trained to spurred cordon.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese Grosso.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, followed by 18–25 days of maceration on the skins.

Ageing

At least six months in oak casks.

Technical data

Production totals 20,000 bottles. Alcohol is 14%, total acidity 5 g/L and dry extract 29.9 g/L. Available in 750 ml bottles.

Tasting profile

Deep, lively ruby red. The fruit-driven bouquet has intense fresh-raspberry and cherry aromas with light spicy nuances. The palate is fresh and full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a pleasantly persistent finish.

Vintage notes

The 2022 season was exceptionally hot and dry. Low rainfall persisted from the opening months through spring, and temperatures climbed well above seasonal averages from the second half of May. Sangiovese Grosso endured the severe heat and water stress through its anisohydric behaviour. Rain finally arrived at the end of July, lowering daytime temperatures and creating substantial diurnal variation. Harvest consequently began early and ended around the final week of September, yielding grapes rich in polyphenols and with an engaging aromatic profile.
