About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from selected vines at the Ceppeto estate in Gaiole in Chianti. The vineyards lie at approximately 300 m above sea level on medium-textured clay soils rich in stones. Vineyard work includes minimal soil cultivation, short spur pruning on cordon-trained vines, summer canopy management, bunch thinning, leaf thinning and harvesting in several passes.
Grapes
90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot.
Vinification
Selected bunches are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in medium-sized vats of 50–100 hl, followed by an extended skin maceration of approximately 18–20 days with periodic délestage. Malolactic fermentation follows soon after devatting.
Ageing
The Riserva matures in French oak barriques and subsequently spends 12 months in bottle before release.
Ageing potential
Further development in balance and texture is expected over approximately 10–12 years.
