About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from vineyards in Contrada Samperi, Marsala, planted between 1970 and 1996.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand during the final ten days of September. After gentle pressing, the must is left to settle before alcoholic fermentation at room temperature in oak and chestnut barrels. A portion of the wine is used to prepare mistella according to an old recipe by combining must with grape spirit; the mistella is subsequently added to the wine.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least 10 years in oak barrels of various sizes.
