About this wine

Vinification

For the 1988 vintage, part of the must was fortified solely with aquavit, a grape spirit made from the same Grillo grapes.

Ageing

The wine matured for more than 30 years in chestnut and oak vats of various sizes. It was bottled in January 2019.

Label / history

The wine originated in 1988 from Marco de Bartoli’s experimentation with making a fortified wine in the Marsala style. Until then, he considered the unfortified Vecchio Samperi the only wine worthy of the term “vergine”. The 1988 release became the company’s only vintage Marsala.
