About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown organically in Central Puglia, inland from the Adriatic Sea, on the plateau known as Altopiano delle Murge (Murgia), where the small town of Sammichele di Bari lies. The vineyards stand 280 m above sea level on rocky limestone soils, which give the grapes their distinctive acidity and minerality.
Grapes
Montepulciano and Primitivo in equal parts.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. After crushing they macerate for 12 hours and are then gently pressed. Fermentation is spontaneous, with wild yeasts. The wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling, and no sulfur is added.
Ageing
Six months in stainless steel tanks, followed by a period in bottle for final ageing before release.
Tasting profile
Young, the wine is rebellious, sharp and wild, with a bold, edgy, impulsive side. It softens to a surprisingly delicate character, with the finesse and elegance expected of a rosé. The limestone gives acidity and minerality. The low alcohol makes it especially easy to drink.
Label / history
Part of the "vini cattivi" collection of Masseria La Cattiva, sold as a basic Vino da Tavola.
