About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Veltha is a single-vineyard selection from Santa Restituta. The west- and south-west-facing vines lie at 390–410 m on marl and galestro. They are trained to spurred cordon at a density of 6,200 vines per hectare.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese from various clones.
Vinification
Every operation in the vineyard and cellar is performed by hand. Only perfectly ripe bunches are selected and harvested into 20 kg crates. Fermentation proceeds with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled 40 hL vats. Extraction combines pump-overs and manual punch-downs, with délestage halfway through fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for up to one year in 500 L French oak, then for two years in 4,000 L French oak. Bottle ageing lasts at least six months.
Technical data
Production is 1,370 bottles, all in 750 ml format.
Tasting profile
Blackberry, lavender and pencil-lead aromas introduce a full-bodied palate. Firm, solid tannins surround fruit with an al dente character, giving the wine a reserved, steadfast structure.
Vintage notes
The 2019 is identified as the new single-vineyard release and was rated 95 points by James Suckling, with a recommendation to drink it after 2026.
