About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown in Sulcis, in southwestern Sardinia. The Mediterranean climate brings low, unevenly distributed rainfall, hot spring and summer conditions, and winters ranging from cold and dry to mild. The soils are rich in mineral elements and combine sand with limestone and clay. Yields are 80–90 hl/ha.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested between the middle and end of September. They undergo eight days of maceration in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 24–26 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for six months in cement tanks, followed by at least three months in bottle.
Label / history
In Sardinian and Spanish, “Mesa” literally means a dining table; for the winery, the name also evokes food, feasts, maternal love, simplicity and aromas. Cantina Mesa was founded by Gavino Sanna and Giuseppe Mele from a shared attachment to Sardinia and its culture. Its home near the sky, sea and hills of Porto Pino includes 100 ha of vineyards.
The winery has a minimalist white façade decorated with motifs inspired by traditional Sardinian carpet weaving. Designed by Sanna, these motifs also appear on every Cantina Mesa bottle.
