About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Nebbiolo comes from a 0.38 ha parcel in the Starderi MGA in Neive. The vineyard begins at 220 m a.s.l. and faces south. Fine, calcareous Typic Ustorthent soils have developed over fossiliferous Sant’Agata Marls.
The introductory description dates the vines to 1966, while the vineyard specifications record 1985 as the planting year.
Grapes
Nebbiolo.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for at least one week at 28–32 °C. The wine stays on its fine lees for at least two months and completes malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
Ageing lasts approximately 24 months in 225 L barriques of first and second passage. The wine is bottled nearly two years after harvest and rests in the cellar for several more months before release.
Tasting profile
Starderi combines freshness in youth with substantial capacity to evolve. Young wines show approachable tannins; with time, deeper structure, richness and complexity emerge. The palate is full-bodied and persistent, with elegant, austere tannins that remain smooth and balanced.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18 °C with cured meats, red or white meats, and aged cheeses.
