About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Nebbiolo vineyards lie at 250–330 m above sea level with south-western exposure. Their geological base is the S. Agata fossil formation, comprising grey-blue marls with varying sand content and local sandy-conglomeratic intercalations. The hillside soil is a fine, calcareous Typic Ustorthent.

The vines were planted in 1985 at a density of 4,400 plants per hectare. They are trellised and Guyot-pruned. Grape yield is 9,000 kg/ha and wine yield is 6,300 L/ha.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo. The late-ripening grapes are harvested between late September and the first half of October.

Vinification

After destemming and crushing, alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for at least one week at 26–28°C. Following racking, the wine remains on its lees for at least two months at 20–22°C while malolactic fermentation is completed. It then rests for three to four months at low winter temperatures to encourage settling and clarification.

Ageing

Refinement lasts approximately ten months. The wine is bottled one year after harvest and held in the cellar for a further few months before release.

Tasting profile

A young red with good body and freshness. It is brilliant ruby red with garnet reflections. The broad, fruit-led bouquet shows violet, raspberry and integrated spice. The palate is fruity and enveloping, with soft, delicate tannins.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C. Its versatile profile suits service throughout a meal.
