About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese comes from the Casa di Sala vineyards in the Panzano in Chianti UGA, at approximately 450 m above sea level. The site has very friable, stony galestro and alberese soils and pronounced day-to-night temperature variation. The vines are Guyot-trained at a density of 5,000 plants per hectare.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by approximately four weeks of maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures in wood for at least 30 months before further ageing in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14.5%. Ageing potential: 15–20 years. First vintage: 2021.
Tasting profile
An elegant, distinctly site-driven expression of Sangiovese shaped by the galestro and alberese soils and the marked temperature variation of Panzano.
Vintage notes
The 2021 season began with a mild, rainy winter and early budbreak. A cool April slowed the growing cycle. Warm summer conditions were moderated by substantial day-to-night temperature differences, while favorable weather in September and October enabled slow, complete ripening.
Label / history
The wine bears Ambrogio Folonari’s name and comes from Panzano in Chianti, where he began investing during the 1970s and participated in the renewal of Tuscan wine.
