About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a 23 ha hillside vineyard at around 350 m above sea level, between Val d’Illasi and Val di Mezzane. The soils are of basalt and limestone origin and contribute balanced minerality, elegance and complexity.
Grapes
The blend comprises Corvina (65%), Corvinone (15%), Rondinella (10%) and Oseleta (5%).
Vinification
The grapes were harvested by hand in September and carefully sorted at the winery. They dried in wooden crates for four months, becoming almost raisined and concentrating their natural sugars. After pressing and maceration, fermentation took place at low temperature. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in stainless-steel tanks at 22–26 °C for 40 days.
Ageing
The wine aged for 24 months: 70% in 225 L French oak barriques and 30% in 500 L French oak tonneaux.
Tasting profile
The wine is elegant and complex, with balanced minerality and a distinctive taste.
Vintage notes
The 2011 vintage began with a very rainy winter. Spring was dry and fairly warm, bringing flowering slightly earlier than usual. Rain in June and July helped the grapes develop an ideal amount of juice, followed by a dry, hot August. The grapes consequently reached harvest in excellent condition and at a high level of quality. In 2019, this vintage received a Grand Gold Medal at the “Mondial de Bruxelles” wine competition.
