About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the Asti region. Pico Maccario’s vineyards cover 70 ha on the hills of Mombaruzzo, at 180 metres above sea level; 55 ha are planted with Barbera. Red roses are planted around the vineyards.
Ageing
The wine rests for seven months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by five months in bottle in the winery’s cellars.
Label / history
“Berro” means “promise.” The rose on the winery’s emblem refers to the red roses surrounding the vineyards.
Pico Maccario was founded by the brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario, who inherited their interest in winemaking and plots of land from their grandfather Carlo. Pico oversees wine production, while Vitaliano manages the commercial side of the family business. The estate has invested in new production equipment, vineyard expansion, and the study of old and new grape clones.
