About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from a south-facing hillside vineyard in Castelnuovo Berardenga, within the Chianti Classico district. The English product page specifies an altitude of 280 m, while the current Italian version gives a range of 280–320 m. Yield is 6,000 kg/ha.

Grapes

90% Sangiovese and 10% other red varieties permitted by the production regulations.

Vinification

Traditional vinification takes place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature of 26–28°C, supported by continuous daily pump-overs. Once fermentation is complete, the wine remains on the skins for a further 10 days.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 10 months in French oak barrels on their second or third use. The English page specifies another 3 months in bottle, while the current Italian page describes bottle refinement as prolonged without giving a precise duration.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14% vol. Available in 0.75 l bottles and 1.5 l magnums.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. Clearly defined Sangiovese aromas evoke cherry and plum, complemented by sweet spices. The palate is full and complex, with dense, mature tannins leading into a rich, crisp finish.
