About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the 0.4 ha Castagnola vineyard in Lessona, at 290–310 m above sea level. Its soil is rich in minerals and trace elements.
Vinification
The grapes are sorted on a conveyor, destemmed and pressed. The must moves by gravity into open vats, where it ferments with native yeasts. Maceration lasts 48 days, with regular punch-downs.
Ageing
The wine ages for 22 months in French oak barrels, half of which are new. It matures further in bottle before release.
Tasting profile
The nose has notes of chocolate and wild strawberry. The palate is rich and elegant, with blackcurrant, tobacco and plum.
Label / history
Piedmont regulations prevent a Cabernet Franc wine from being registered as DOC, so the label bears “Vino da Tavola,” meaning “table wine.” The name translates from Piedmontese dialect as “French bandit,” and the vintage is encoded on the label.
