About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes partly from the estate’s Villa Pattono vineyards in Costigliole d’Asti and partly from other vineyards in the Asti hills.
Grapes
100% Barbera. The first vintage was produced in 2009.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand in September, then destemmed and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with approximately two weeks of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation is also completed in stainless steel.
Tasting profile
Intense red in color, with ripe-fruit aromas set against a spicy background. The palate is full-flavored, pleasant and elegant, combining a rich, structured character with good persistence.
Serving and pairing
A partner for first courses and red meats. Its structure also makes it suitable for medium-term ageing.
Label / history
Renato Ratti created the historic “soldier” label as a tribute to the heroism of Piedmontese regiments in the eighteenth century. The wine is presented in the Albeisa bottle, named after Alba and created by Renato Ratti in 1973 to identify the wines and distinctive character of their territory.
