About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Riecine di Riecine is made from Vigna Palmina, the estate’s oldest Sangiovese vines in Gaiole in Chianti. The 2022 technical sheet records vines aged 70 years at 450–500 m above sea level, rooted in limestone and clay. The vineyard is farmed organically under ICEA certification, with Guyot and spurred-cordon training, a density of 4,500 vines/ha and a yield of 35 q/ha.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese. The wine began with the 2010 vintage.
Vinification
The 2022 fruit was harvested by hand in September and October, with one selection in the vineyard and another on a vibrating sorting table. Fermentation took place with whole berries, including 30% undestemmed fruit, in unlined Nomblot concrete tanks. The longer cellar narrative adds several days of cryomaceration with dry ice before a 15–20-day fermentation. The technical sheet gives a total maceration of 25–40 days.
Ageing
The 2022 technical sheet specifies 24 months in unlined Nomblot concrete eggs and six months in bottle. Before bottling, the longer narrative also describes a period in unlined concrete tanks for tartaric stabilization and natural fining.
Technical data
The 2022 has 14.50% alcohol. It was bottled in December 2024, yielding 3,540 standard bottles and 30 magnums.
Label / history
The fruit comes from the old vines that John Dunkley and Palmina Abbagnano encountered when they arrived in Tuscany.
