About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Vigna Gittori lies in Gaiole in Chianti, Siena, at 450–500 metres above sea level. Its limestone-and-clay soils are planted at 4,000 vines per hectare, with Guyot and spurred-cordon training. The vineyard has been managed organically under ICEA certification since 2006. The yield for the 2022 release was 40 q/ha.
Riecine had managed Gittori for several years before acquiring the vineyard in 2019. The combination of the site and the character of its Sangiovese inspired a single-vineyard Gran Selezione; the favourable 2019 growing season became its inaugural vintage. The vines are described as 45 years old, while the 2022 release records an age of 50 years.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese from Vigna Gittori.
Vinification
The 2022 grapes were harvested by hand in September and October. Selection took place twice: first among the vines and then on a vibrating sorting table at the winery. The selected fruit was destemmed and fermented in open, unlined Nomblot concrete tanks. Maceration lasted 25 days.
Ageing
The wine matured for 24 months in old 500-litre French oak tonneaux more than four years of age, followed by six months in bottle before release.

Lightweight glass is used for the bottles. Capsules and labels are recyclable and regenerable Polynatures materials compliant with EU Directive 94/62/EC and certified as recyclable polylaminate by CSI. Packaging and shipping boxes carry PEFC certification and use recycled and recyclable paper sourced from regenerated forests; the printing inks are biodegradable.
Tasting profile
The wine combines power and finesse. Its Sangiovese delivers strength and depth of flavour, supported by fine, dynamic tannins. The Gittori parcel also produces a particularly distinctive aromatic expression that has consistently stood apart during cellar tastings.
Vintage notes
The 2022 release was bottled in September 2025 after a September–October harvest. The wine debuted with the 2019 vintage, a season regarded as ideal for establishing the single-vineyard Gran Selezione.
Label / history
The wine bears the vineyard’s name as an acknowledgement of the Gittori site and the distinctive power, finesse and aromatic personality of its Sangiovese.
