About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are situated in Gaiole in Chianti (SI), at 450–500 m above sea level, on limestone and clay soils. They have been managed organically since 2006 and are certified by ICEA. The 2024 vines are reported as 25–35 years old; the general specification gives a range of 10–30 years. Planting density is 5,500–6,000 vines per hectare, with Guyot and spurred-cordon training. Yield is 60 q/ha.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published vintage (2024): 100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The 2024 grapes were picked by hand in September and October, with an initial selection in the vineyard and a second selection on a vibrating sorting table. Plots are vinified separately in open, unlined Nomblot concrete tanks.
The 2024 specification describes fermentation with whole grapes and a maceration of 15–20 days. The broader cellar description instead refers to gentle destemming, approximately 15 days of fermentation and a further five days of submerged-cap maceration. A separate summary gives approximately 10 days of maceration before pressing.
Ageing
For 2024, maturation lasts 11 months in old French-oak tonneaux, followed by three months of refinement in bottle. The broader cellar method describes approximately 12 months divided among old tonneaux, large untoasted Grenier casks and concrete tanks. After blending, the wine returns to large outdoor concrete tanks for approximately three months of tartaric stabilization and natural fining before bottling.

Tasting profile
A pleasantly austere interpretation of Chianti Classico, shaped by Sangiovese’s natural temperament and elegance. It is conceived both for relaxed drinking at lunch and for extended ageing.
Label / history
First produced in 1973, Chianti Classico was Riecine’s inaugural wine. It was first bottled by an English advertising executive and a strong-minded Italian woman. Although the label has evolved slightly over time, the wine has retained its established stylistic identity.
