About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Opera Prima is made from old Nebbiolo vines drawn from several vineyards.
Grapes
Nebbiolo from different harvests. Depending on the edition, the blend combines a minimum of two and a maximum of four vintages.
Ageing
The component wines mature in neutral oak barrels and concrete tanks. Blending takes place once they have reached optimum maturity.
Vintage notes
Rather than carrying a conventional vintage designation, each release bears a Roman numeral identifying its edition. The sequence presented begins with Opera Prima III and extends through Opera Prima XX.
Label / history
Alfredo Roagna created Opera Prima in 1979. His aim was to synthesize several distinguished Nebbiolo vintages in one wine, tempering the differences between individual harvests. The label reflected his wish to create a revolutionary, deliberately contrasting wine in an era when appellation carried little value.
