About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from a vineyard of approximately 0.38 ha, with southern and southwestern exposures. The vines average nine years of age and grow on marl soil. Vineyard work follows organic methods. Friuli-Venezia Giulia has a mild, humid climate and lies close to both the mountains and the sea.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the first half of September, once they have reached peak ripeness. They are gently pressed in a pneumatic press, and the juice is cold-settled to separate it from the sediment. Fermentation takes place on the skins: 80% of the must ferments in second-use oak barrels and 20% in a cement tank. The two portions are blended two weeks before bottling.
Ageing
The wine ages in bottle for one year before release.
Label / history
In the local dialect, “Ronco” means “vineyard on a hill”; “Gnemiz” is the surname of the family who lived and made wine on the property for centuries. The Palazzolo family bought the land in the early 1960s and retained its historic name. Enzo Palazzolo built a new winery in 1964, and his daughter Serena took over its management in 1981, working with winemakers Roberto Cipresso and Andrea Pittana. Average production is approximately 1,800 bottles.
