About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from vineyards on a gentle rise in the hills of Colli Orientali. A mountain range shelters the site from cold northern winds. The soils are Cormons flysch, a sedimentary rock composed of alternating layers of limestone-rich clay marl and sandstone. The wider region has a mild, humid climate and lies between the mountains and the sea. The vines are 10–35 years old and are farmed organically with minimal intervention.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at full ripeness and gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The juice is cold settled to separate it from the sediment. Fermentation takes place 25% in tonneaux and 75% in stainless-steel tanks, without malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine rests in stainless steel before filtration and bottling.
Label / history
The wine is named after Serena Palazzolo, who took over the estate in 1981. Her family bought the property in the early 1960s and retained its historic name; Enzo Palazzolo built a new winery there in 1964. Serena oversees production from vineyard work through bottling with oenologists Roberto Cipresso and Andrea Pittana. In the local dialect, “Ronco” means “vineyard on a hill”, while “Gnemiz” is the name of the family that lived and made wine on the property for centuries.
