About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from a lush five-hectare vineyard on Montalcino’s northern to northeastern side. At 300 m, the relatively flat site has loamy, clay- and marl-rich soils, with deep clay also noted in the plot. Good ventilation and ample sunlight support consistent ripening.

Grapes

100% estate-grown, organically certified Sangiovese.

Vinification

Native yeasts drive spontaneous fermentation in 35 hl tronconic oak vats. The 2021 underwent three days of pre-fermentation cold maceration and 30 days of skin contact after fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matures for three years in large Slavonian oak barrels, with cellar-aged French barrique also forming part of the élevage.

Technical data

The 2021 has 14.5% alcohol.

Tasting profile

Full-bodied and structured, the wine balances ripe red and black fruit with lively acidity. Raspberry, Morello cherry, wild berries, blackcurrant and dark plum meet blood orange, spiced citrus and mineral depth. Floral tones of white rose, violet, hyacinth and lavender are joined by cedar, sandalwood, liquorice, balsamic nuances, white pepper, eucalyptus, cigar box and clove. The texture is velvety and at times creamy, with refined yet deep tannins, fresh acidity and a focused, succulent finish.

Vintage notes

The 2021 season began with a cool winter and fresh spring, slowing the vegetative cycle and preserving moisture. A dry, warm summer without extreme heat and pronounced diurnal shifts encouraged slow, even ripening. Stable September weather allowed extended hang time and a selective harvest. The 2021 is described as more linear and assertive than previous editions while retaining precision and balance.
