About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Rocca Bernarda and Rosazzo, from south-east-facing hillside vineyards at 130–170 m above sea level. The soils are marl and sandstone. The different varieties were planted in separate periods between 1976 and 2014, at densities of 4,000–5,000 vines per hectare. The training system is Guyot.
Grapes
A blend of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Schioppettino and Pignolo, three indigenous red varieties of Friuli.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red. Red fruit, leather, cocoa, coffee and spices form an enveloping aromatic profile. The palate is assertive yet harmonious and balanced by good acidity, with currant, black cherry, liquorice and cocoa supported by substantial structure and persistence.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16 °C. Pair with grilled red meats, sliced steak, ribs and mature hard cheeses.
