About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay is grown at the Regaleali estate at 530 m above sea level. The southwest-facing vineyards have sandy and clay soils, with vines planted in 1986 and 1997.
Vinification
Harvest takes place from late August to early September. After pressing, the wine ferments for 15 days at 18 °C in French oak barriques from Allier and Tronçais. Malolactic fermentation is avoided.
Ageing
The wine matures for eight months in French oak barriques, 70% of which are renewed each year.
Tasting profile
Refined in character, with the richness associated with its Mediterranean terroir.
Label / history
Lucio Tasca began experimenting with French grape varieties in the early 1980s after recognizing their potential in Sicily. The trials were initially kept secret because his father, Giuseppe Tasca Sr., opposed the idea and the varieties were prohibited in Sicily at the time. After the first release, Giuseppe Tasca Sr. became convinced of the project’s future; Sicilian wine-regulating organizations later accepted the same direction. The wine made its official debut in 1989.
