About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The hillside vineyards lie at 250–400 m above sea level on marl and clay soils. Their slopes span an arc from southwest to southeast, providing ample daylight for full ripening, while the elevation helps preserve acidity and aromatic freshness.
Grapes
Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella are supplemented by a small proportion of other local varieties.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and dried under controlled conditions for about four months in the traditional appassimento process. The loss of moisture concentrates their sugars, acids, phenolic compounds and aromas.
Ageing
The wine matures for about three years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by at least six months in bottle. This preserves the clarity of the fruit and allows the oak notes to integrate gently.
Tasting profile
Powerful, layered and refined, with a well-defined structure and elegant spice. Richness is balanced by freshness. The palate is dense and richly textured, with dried cherry, chocolate, spice and liqueur-like fruit.
Label / history
The name “Marne 180” refers to the vineyards’ soils and aspect: “Marne” denotes the marl and clay soils, while “180” represents the arc of the slopes’ exposure from southwest to southeast.
