About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyard lies at 1,000 metres above sea level in Hofstatt, Unterfennberg, in the municipality of Margreid. Its position shelters it from northerly winds and creates a distinct microclimate. The vines are no more than 31 years old.
The bright red soil consists of varied glacial moraine material. Its middle layers are predominantly silty, clay-rich sands containing boulders of red and white marble, porphyry and granite; dolomite and limestone occur at greater depth. The soil has a high salt content, associated with the wine’s characteristic fruit and herbal aromas.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, briefly macerated and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place without added cultured yeast, divided equally between large wooden barrels and concrete tanks. The resulting wines are then blended.
Ageing
The blended wine rests on its fine lees for almost one year, followed by a further six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The aromatic profile combines distinctive fruit and herbal notes.
Label / history
The wine is dedicated to the memory of Herbert Tiefenbrunner, father of the winery’s current owner, Christoph. It is bottled under screw cap to preserve its broad aromatic range.
