About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in the hills of Northern Piedmont, which were formed by melting glaciers and have predominantly heavy clay soils. A marked shift between cool nights and warm days promotes intense aromas, clear fruit character and a velvety texture.
Vinification
Produced only in exceptional years, when the weather allows the grapes to reach full ripeness in good condition. The fruit is hand-harvested in small crates during the first half of October. Traditional skin maceration is followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least four years in French Allier oak barrels selected to soften the tannins without obscuring the fruit aromas, followed by a further six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Intensely aromatic, with clear fruit character, velvety texture and velvety tannins. The oak does not overpower the fruit aromas.
Serving and pairing
Decant for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Label / history
In the first decade of the 21st century, the Riserva was produced in only two vintages: 2007 and 2009.
